“Working in the Heavy Lift team as an engineer is great; every day brings something different.”

After starting as a Graduate Project Engineer in September 2021, Devin has been busy working on site, quickly learning the ropes of the Monadelphous way. It's safe to say he has hit the ground running.

"The idea of working at Monadelphous sparked my interest as I'd worked in smaller construction companies but was looking to try out something different. When I saw Monadelphous offered onsite and offsite roles, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity given I'm still young and have recently graduated from university.

The week that I just spent onsite solidified that I am at a good company, everyone was welcoming and supportive.

The long hours, heat and PPE might take a little getting used to but fundamentally the role is great. It gives me a pragmatic view on what happens onsite and site exposure, which I feel is invaluable at such an early stage of my career.

Working in the Heavy Lift team as an engineer is great; every day brings something different. From working on lift studies and transport studies, to designing crib huts, each day presents me with unique challenges I enjoy. Part of this is the senior engineers around me, they are so friendly and have showed great support since I joined the company.

When I first accepted the role as a graduate, I made it quite clear I wanted to start immediately as opposed to February 2022 (when the graduate program commences) and Monadelphous fortunately offered me a role in Heavy Lift. It was quite daunting at first, given I have had no prior experience working with cranes. However, since I've started the support network from everyone in the Heavy Lift team has been tremendous.

It's quite interesting, the mining and construction sector wasn't always what I had intended as being my career path. I wasn't sure of the career path I wanted to take though, until I took a gap year after high school. It has been a journey thus far, in fact when I was 12 years old, I went on Australia's Got Talent for singing. I think apart from anything, it was a proud parent moment and now something I can look back on and have a giggle at.

Now that I've found my career path, I'm able to spend more time on the weekends in the great outdoors with family and friends which is what I love to do in my down time.

Something else that I live for is sports of any kind. Unfortunately, last year I partially tore my ACL but I'm now finally starting to get back into playing sports again. I played in the Mono's Footy Cup this year which shows great signs of me returning to full health.

It's only been a few months at Monadelphous, but I genuinely feel like I'm part of the family. Everyone has been so helpful and supportive; I can't wait to keep learning and am really excited to see what's next for me around the corner." said Devin.
