Apprentices and Trainees

Our apprenticeships combine paid work with hands-on training on some of Australia’s largest projects. You'll learn practical skills while you gain nationally recognised qualifications.

Because of our size and project portfolio, our apprentices enjoy day-to-day variety, and often get the opportunity to choose interesting pathways as their careers develop.

Monadelphous offers apprenticeships in:

  • Mechanical Fitting (Cert III Engineering Mechanical Trade)
  • Electrical (Cert III Electrotechnology Electrician)
  • Boilermaking/Welding (Cert III Engineering Fabrication Trade)

Monadelphous provides structured on and off the job training while you complete your apprenticeship. You will be supported on site by experienced tradespeople, strong construction and project management teams, and a dedicated Apprentice Coordinator.

How much will I be paid?

You will be paid in line with the relevant industry standard and your experience.

Will I get to choose my preferred apprenticeship trade?

Please let us know when you submit your application if there is a particular trade you'd like to pursue. We will do everything we can to make sure you are able to follow your passion and interest.

What is expected of me at TAFE and at work?

An apprenticeship is a long-term commitment, taking four years to complete. As far as TAFE work is concerned, our expectations are the same as during work. We want you to be interested in the task at hand, committed to learning and safety, being a great team member and representing Monadelphous in the best possible way. There are no set criteria regarding marks, however we'd expect you to reach out to your mentor to ask for assistance should you ever come across stumbling blocks. We will always be there to support you.

What will I be doing at work?

As a major maintenance and construction contractor we build, repair and maintain assets for some of Australia's largest resources companies. Depending on the trade you are undertaking, you will be paired up with experienced tradespeople to build your competencies. Initially, you may oversee tasks performed by qualified tradespeople, assisting them as you gradually progress. Once you become competent in performing tasks supervised, you will then be given the opportunity to work independently. What kind of people is Monadelphous looking to appoint?

We are looking for team players - people who love working with others! In addition, and it will probably come as no surprise, we are looking for people who are eager to learn in a hands-on, practical way. We don’t expect you to know that much about your chosen field or the industry we work in right now, but by the end of your four year apprenticeship, we hope you know lots and are eager to continue to learn, and even teach those around you. Other than that, you might have heard us talk about the importance of safety a few times by now, so we are looking for those who place a high value on not just their own safety, but that of all members of their crew.

What is involved in the recruitment process?

Upon receiving your application, we will assess your resume. Should you fulfil the role’s minimum requirements, you can expect a phone call from our recruitment team to cover off on a few brief questions and to learn a little more about you. Later stages of our recruitment process involve your attendance at one of our assessment centres for an interview. If you haven't completed a pre-apprenticeship, we may ask you to complete a simple online test for general mathematics and mechanical understanding.
