My whole career has been with Monadelphous and I haven’t looked back since. After completing a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering majoring in Oil and Gas, I had the opportunity to start my career with Monadelphous as an Undergraduate Engineer over 10 years ago.
When I was at university, a few senior business managers, CEO’s and other influential people came to our university and gave talks centred around business, opportunities and career direction. These people were all passionate about engineering being a solid foundation for any successful career in business. This encouraged me to finish my degree and get out into the real world and see what possibilities lay ahead of me.
One thing I knew quite early on was that I was not very interested in engineering theories and proving design parameters, I wanted to be the sort of engineer who was practical and hands on. I love talking and interacting with people, so I didn’t want to get stuck behind a computer all day or stuck in a research laboratory. This, along with my need to constantly challenge myself, has led me along the engineering pathway I have followed to date.
Monadelphous has allowed me the freedom to set my own career pathway from day one. I’ve never had anyone watching closely over my shoulder telling me what I need to do. Having the opportunity to work across numerous sites in the first 5-6 years of my career, I developed a good understanding of the day-to-day site requirements, as well as an appreciation of common problems that arise within the mining and minerals and oil and gas industries. This experience has set me up to now provide valuable feedback in constructability reviews, tendering new works and supporting projects from an offsite capacity. In recent years, Monadelphous has allowed me the flexibility and support to tailor my career to suit my growing family.
Recent personal achievements include; returning to work as a new mum in 2018 and balancing both work and family life commitments, whilst also being officially promoted to Senior Project Engineer and acting in a Project Manager role during the mobilisation of a new project.
What inspires me now is my drive to provide opportunities for my family. I want to set an example for my daughter, showing her that hard work pays off and to teach her the value of commitment and dedication.
