My mantra is to just give it a go. The road of an apprenticeship for example can seem like a long road and daunting at times, but this could really be a massive foundation for future career goals within the industry. All my friends went to college or university which has great benefits, my story is just a bit different – I went to work at 16 with 4am starts, 12 hour days with oil stained hands.
I was lucky enough to be taken on with Monadelphous as a trainee in the Central Welding Group six years ago, and I'm now currently the Senior Welding Specialist for the Group. During this time, I have worked on some of the world’s largest oil and gas and mining projects.
I thrive on challenges, and I have had nothing but fantastic support from my direct managers and others within Monadelphous. It is a passion of mine now to support and mentor the up-and-coming apprentices within Monadelphous and show them the vast career opportunities available to them. Monadelphous has a great family sense of belonging, with great people to work with. I hope to continue to grow within the company and see many more years come and go.
I've learned that you shouldn't be afraid to ask questions. Your work colleagues (who have been in the field and have the skills) really are the ones to pass one the core knowledge. They have inspired me to be the best leader/worker I can be.
