As part of our partnership with the Polly Farmer Foundation, we recently had 17 students visit our Employee Development Centre in Bibra Lake to get a taste of life at Monadelphous, and the potential pathways available in our industry.
The students were a mix of year 11 and 12's from Northam, Central Midlands, Merredin College and WA College of Agriculture, who are part of the Follow the Dream Program.
Students also heard from Follow the Dream Alumni Cherokee Ugle, who now works for the Foundation, about her journey through high school and the training she has received from Monadelphous as a Follow the Dream graduate.
"It was great to meet the Follow the Dream students and see the opportunities Monadelphous has to offer. I enjoyed being with the students and engaging in the supervised activities, such as controlling the EWP, putting out controlled fires and operating a vehicle. I hope to have Follow the Dream graduates come through our Alumni program and participate in the Monadelphous pro-bono training," she said.
Cheroke was one of two Polly Farmer Foundation Alumni who received pro-bono training at our Employee Development Centre, where she successfully completed the Work Safely at Heights course.
Mark Thygesen, Employee Development Centre Manager, said that the purpose of the activity was to provide the students with some insight into the industry in a fun and engaging way.
"The students were encouraged through all the discussions to find a job or pathway in the industry that they are interested in and to be intentional about starting, committing and achieving," said Mark.
We have been proud partners of the Polly Farmer Foundation since 2018 and continue to work closely with the organisation to give students and alumni access to opportunities and pathways within our industry.
