“ I’m quite goal driven, so the opportunity to work from start to finish on a variety of large-scale projects across different sites was very appealing to me.”
When I first joined Monadelphous, I was an electrician, I had previously worked on commercial jobs in Perth city (quite a different environment to the Pilbara) but I was ready for a new challenge. I’m quite goal driven, so the opportunity to work start to finish on a variety of large-scale projects across different sites was very appealing to me.
I was always encouraged to get involved in leadership training. Being given the opportunity to work alongside senior electricians and having exposure to engineers massively helped with my progression and allowed me to quickly build up my skills. Over time I became a leading hand and eventually took on the position of an electrical supervisor. A leadership role came with a new set of challenges, simultaneously presenting me with opportunities to be even more hands on, allowing me to have greater control when it comes to project execution.
While work is important, maintaining a healthy routine is a big focus for me while I’m on site. I try to make sure I’m eating well and exercising regularly. This helps me to be at my best both personally and professionally. In saying that, I’m looking forward to what the next few years will bring, I feel supported in my role and surrounded by people who want to see me succeed. As I continue to develop my skills, who knows where the next few years will take me.
